United States Sacagawea Golden Dollar Coin

In 2000, the United States Mint will circulate a new dollar coin - something that hasn't happened in more than 20 years. The Golden Dollar, the first coin of the new millennium, features a striking portrait of Sacagawea.

The current supply of Susan B. Anthony coins is depleted. And unlike the Susan B. Anthony coin, the Golden Dollar will not be confused with the quarter. The Golden Dollar is easily discernible by sight and touch, thanks to its gold color, distinctive edge and unique, finely crafted image.

Who is Sacagawea?  Sacagawea was a Shoshone Indian who assisted the historic Lewis and Clark expedition. Between 1804-1806, while still a teenager, she guided the adventurers from the Northern Great Plains to the Pacific Ocean and back.
